Congratulations to the following Bryan High School students who qualified and participated on Saturday, May 3 at the State Competition for the National History Day Competition in Austin, Tx, the UIL Academic State Competition at the University of Texas and the Art & Essay Contest at the George Bush Presidential Library & Museum.

UIL State Academic Competition:
Taylor Colwell competed in the UIL State Academic Competition on Saturday, May 3 at the University of Texas in Austin. He competed as one of the top 13 Ready Writers in the State of Texas in Division 5A .

•Art Congratulations to the following students for their Superior 4 Rating during the 2008 VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event). These students are recognized as part of the top 5 % Art Students in the State of Texas! •Automotive Technology The BHS Auto Technology students had a great weekend at the Skills USA State Contest for Auto Technology in Corpus Christi, Texas. A first place ribbon for Superior Projects was awarded to Waine Newland- Project Auto Carburetor & Best of Show Award in Auto Technology; Colton Roberts- Project Auto cylinder head; Donovan Blair- Project Auto steering/ Suspension; and Randall
Jones- Project Auto service technology. A second place ribbon for Excellent was awarded to Ivan Ramirez - Project Auto electrical component.
•AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) The following AVID seniors are semi-finalists for the prestigious Dell Scholarship: Irma Sanchez, Mariela Roman, Danile Zepeda, Yvetter Urrutia, Selina Falco, Gerishia Davis.
•Business Professionals of America BPA competed at the regional competition in January. The Web Design Team of Leah Flores, James Moncivais, Tyler Rogers and Andrea Young placed 3rd in the region. Drew Partlow placed 4th in the Graphic Design competition. James Moncivais placed 3rd in Impromptu Speaking and 3rd in Information Technology.
•Color Guard Once again please wish the Bryan HS color guard members congratulations. They finished the competitive season on Saturday at Texas Color Guard Circuit's State Championships in Houston and brought home the State Champion title. They have worked incredibly hard this year and received a Championship Banner and a trophy to put on display!
•Construction Trades The construction trades classes entered five projects at the TSA Regional Contest. The result was four 1st places and one 2nd place. The next contest will be the State TSA Contest in Waco. Good luck!
•Cosmetology The BHS Cosmetology students did an excellent job at the Skills USA Competition in Beaumont competing against a total of about 14 schools in various categories. These six young ladies will be moving on to State Level Competition the first week in April. In Nail Care, Margarita Rodriguez earned second. The Cosmetology Quiz Bowl team consisting of Rosa Loredo, Margarita Rodriguez, Marysol Maldonado, and Lorena Sanchez placed 1st out of 8 teams. The following earned prizes for their projects: 1st - Margarita Rodriquez, 1st - Susanna Zamarripa,
1st - Denita Ellis, 1st - Vivian Li, and 2nd - Brittney Warren.
•Marketing Students competed in the district DECA meet in the Woodlands January 19th. Lucia Aguilar and Brittany Martinez advanced to the state competition in Corpus Christi.
•Media Technology Congratulations to Media Technology seniors Derek Dean and Meghan Quinn and sophomore Vanessa Bracken for advancing to the Skills USA State Contest in Video Production. Each one produced and edited their own short film and each film received a "Superior" rating from the judges! In addition, Derek Dean and Ben Jacob placed 4th in the on-site video production contest.
•Orchestra Lindsey Spiegelman placed first in the 10th annual Brazos Valley Concerto Competition.
•Poetry Out Loud Congratulations to Andrew Carson of Rudder High School and Brandon Nichols of Bryan High School! These young men will represent our schools on March 15th at the state finals of the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation competition in Austin.

The 2007-2008 Shy-Anne’s had an AEWSOME year!! To finish it off the girls celebrated with a dinner and awards ceremony at the Briarcrest Country Club on Thursday, April 3, 2008. The girls enjoyed a memorable slide show that reviewed the year and all of their hard work, fun and exciting road trips and great accomplishments throughout the year. Great Job to our 2007-2008 Bryan High Shy-Anne’s!!!!
•Speech and Debate The Bryan High School Speech and Debate Team traveled to compete at Mexia, Pflugerville, University of Texas-Austin, and Clear Brook High School to compete this year. At the Clear Brook Tournament, Darius Alexander placed 4th in Novice Poetry.
•Theatre The BHS Theatre department traveled to Temple this last Friday for the UIL One Act Play competition. The show had six actors- THREE came home with honors! The following student received:

All of the students who particitpated were professional, gracious, and powerful onstage. We should all be very proud- these students had about 2 months less time to work than all the other schools in our disctrict. For those of you who attended the public performance, thank you so very much. The students were so appreciative to see the support. For those of you who could not find time in your schedule to attend, you missed an awesome show!
•Women in IT On February 21 the Center for the Management of Information Systems board hosted the Women in IT conference. For the first time, Bryan High School senior girls were invited. Students visited with these women concerning opportunities in the field of IT and how to best prepare themselves to be successful in their careers and life.
