Bilingual

Johnson Elementary offers Bilingual Education in Grades 3-5 with one bilingual class per grade.

Our philosophy for the bilingual program is to provide an environment that includes instructional leadership support and embraces parental involvement.  Education is continued in the student’s primary language while attaining mastery of the English language.  The goal is to produce healthy, well-rounded, bilingual individuals who respect and celebrate diversity.

Dual Language
“Two languages uniting within each child”

In Fall 2005, Johnson Elementary began a  pilot Dual Language Program.  Each year 22 students will be accepted into the program, 11 Spanish speakers and 11 English speakers.  All students and parents must make a commitment for six years to the program from Kindergarten through 5th Grade.

The mission of the Dual Language Program is to produce bilingual and bi-literate individuals while continuing to promote high academic achievement.  The program focuses on content mastery while both maintaining a first language and learning a second.  The goal is for students to become literate and fluent in both Spanish and English.

Why Dual Language Education?

Childhood is the ideal time to learn a new language.  It’s the best time for most students to acquire complete fluency, flawless pronunciation and natural ease of expression.
