Bryan ISD is proud to present the opening of the INQUIRE Academy during the 2008-09 school year.

INQUIRE Academy is open to all middle school students identified as gifted and talented. It follows a school-within-a-school model and is housed in one wing of Jane Long Middle School.  Content area classes, Spanish, and Technology courses are all taken in this one wing.  Students leave the wing for lunch and other electives.

Curriculum is based on the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme.  INQUIRE is a International Baccalaureate Candidate school that will apply for authorization in June 2010.  INQUIRE students have eight periods per day.  Subjects include Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, visual and performing arts, technology, and physical education.  Students have opportunities to accelerate their learning and take advanced level courses for high school credit.  Technology immersion is evident throughout the academy and is made possible through the use of individual laptops.  Click here to find out more about BISD's laptop immersion project.

Students work with teachers who have been extensively trained in educational theories and practices that benefit gifted and talented students.  Teachers in the INQUIRE academy have a great understanding of how gifted students think, feel, and what they need to be challenged.  Class sizes are kept small so that students have the maximum opportunity to learn and create.  Students have opportunities to work exclusively with other gifted students and opportunities to study in areas of student interest.

Transportation is provided.  Students catch the bus in their neighborhood and ride to their zoned campus, where they will catch a transfer bus to Long.  In the afternoon, they will catch the transfer bus back to their zoned campus, change buses and ride back to their neighborhood.

Interested students must complete an application process.  An application can be obtained at any elementary or middle school campus.  Completed applications should be sent to the INQUIRE office at Jane Long Middle School.  Click here for directions to the INQUIRE Academy.
