The Bryan softball team began the Area round of the playoffs with a bang on Thursday by defeating Lake Highlands 9-0 in game 1 of the best of 3 series in Lorena. Game 2 & 3 (if necessary) will be played on Friday at Mary Hardin Baylor University in Belton, first pitch is set for 6:30pm.  Senior Hannah Parker struck out 6 and allowed only an infield single to improve to 15-2 on the season. Sophomore Taylor Curtis lead the offense with a perfect 3-3 night at the plate. Senior Kenna Buxbaum hit a three run home run in the 5th that helped set a school single season record for the team with 14 for the season. The Lady Vikings improve to 28-5 on the season and will look for their second consecutive sweep along with a trip to the regional quarterfinals.

Recent Headlines


The bhs softball team clinched the area championship on Friday by defeating lake highlands 14-2 in a game stopped after 5 innings due to a run rule victory for the lady Vikings. It was the second consecutive sweep for the lady Vikings in the playoffs.
Sophomore Rebecca Peirce allows only 2 hits in picking up her 7th victory. Senior Meagan Kraatz hits a home run and a triple plus scores twice. Kraatz breaks a single season triples record with her 12th. She also is tied for most doubles in a career with 25 and most runs in a season with 44. Junior Reagan Boenker also hits a home run and a triple. Boenker who is the all time career home run holder adds most home runs in a season with her 5th.
The lady Vikings move on to their second consecutive regional quarterfinal. For the second straight year they will take on a district opponent. Last year the lady Vikings beat district rival temple. This year the belton tigers will be the opposition.  The three game series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 6, game two will follow 30 minutes after. The if necessary game 3 will be Saturday at noon. All games will be played at Baylor university in Waco. The last vikings are 29-5.

The Bryan Lady Viking softball team ended their final district 12-5A campaign in a big way on Friday. They traveled across town to battle rival A&M Consolidated. The Lady Vikings would beat the Lady Tigers 10-2 to clinch a share of the district championship. It was the 2nd championship in 3 years. The Lady Vikings leave their 8 year stay in district 12-5A having won 5 championships. It was also the first time the Lady Vikings have swept the Lady Tigers since 2006(won 10-1 at home earlier). Senior Hannah Parker was again stellar on the mound picking up her 13th win of the season. Fellow Senior Meagan Kraatz lead the offense going 4-5 with a 2B, 3B, 2 runs scored and an rbi. Kraatz triple ties a school record for a season with 11. The 25-5 Lady Vikings will now turn their focus on a Bi-District Championship. They will play a best of 3 series vs North Mesquite. All games will be played at Lorena High School. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday at 7pm. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 12pm with the if game at 2pm if needed.

The Bryan High school softball team made quick work of Killeen Shoemaker on Tuesday. In the final regular season game at home, the Lady Vikings defeated the grey wolves 15-0 in 4 innings. With the win the Lady Vikings remain in a 3 way tie for first with Consol and Temple. Junior Brittney Jones picked up her 7th win of the season and also lead the offense with a 3 hit night.   The Lady Vikings will look to clinch a share of the district championship on Friday as they travel to Consol for a 7pm game.

After suffering a tough loss to Temple on Tuesday the BHS softball team bounced back in a big way on Friday as they defeated Harker Heights 19-3 in their final road trip as a 12-5A member. The Lady Vikings remained tied for first with A&M Consolidated and Temple. Sophomore Rebecca Peirce picked up her 5th win of the season. Senior Hannah Parker and sophomore Erica Russell both hit home runs. With the home runs the Lady Vikings tied a school record for most home runs in a season with 13. With the win the Lady Vikings improved to 23-5 and 10-2 in district play. They will close out district play by hosting Shoemaker Tuesday on senior night at 6pm. Friday they will head across town to face the Consol tigers for a shot at the district championship, first pitch is set for 7pm.

The BHS softball team defeated Copperas Cove 10-0 at home on Thursday with the win the Lady Vikings clinched a playoff spot. It is the 13th straight softball playoff  appearance. In the first inning the Lady Vikings scratch out a run when senior Meagan Kraatz scores on a ground out by senior Kenna Buxbaum. The second inning would see Kraatz double in juniors Taylor Canales and Morgan Isbell. Sophomore Erica Russell increases the lead to four, tripling in Kraatz. After a pair of scoreless innings, the Lady Vikings would blow the game open with a five run 5th. Junior Brittney Jones brings in fellow junior Reagan Boenker. Sophomore ally bessette knocks in a pair, Buxbaum and sophomore Taylor Curtis. Jones scores on a double steal with sophomore Courtney Meier. Sophomore Rebecca Peirce ends the scoring in the 5th with a single scoring Meier. In e 6th Curtis ends the game via the run rule with a shot off the right field fence bringing In sophomore Anissa Hernandez. Senior Hannah Parker improves to 12-1, striking out 5 and allowing only 3 hits. Bryan improves to 22-4, 9-1 in 12-5a. The win sets up a showdown with 2nd place Temple on Tuesday at the Lady Viking softball complex. The tem cats handed the lady Vikings their only loss of district in march with a 2-0 win. First pitch is set at 7pm.


After a dramatic victory over Belton on Friday in which the Lady Vikings scored in the bottom of 7th to defeat the Lady Tigers 7-6 to start the second half of district play, the Lady Viking softball team is now in sole possession of first place after Tuesday's victory over Killeen Ellison, 4-2. Belton defeated the Temple Temcats Tuesday to vault the Lady Vikings into first.  On Tuesday in Killeen, Lady Vikings would scratch a run in the second when junior Taylor Canales singles in sophomore Taylor Curtis for the 1-0 lead. The Ellison Lady Eagles would take their only lead of the game in the bottom of the 2nd with a pair of runs. The Lady Vikings would take the lead for good in the top of 3rd. Senior Meagan Kraatz reaches on an error by the shortstop and then single handly ties the game up. Kraatz would advance to 2nd on a blown pick off at first, steal 3rd and race home an errant throw by the Lady Eagle catcher. Sophomore Erica Russell walks and advances all the way to third on the throw also. Junior Reagan Boenker grounds out to the short stop but Russell races in to give the Lady Vikings a 3-2 lead. In the 6th Boenker leads off with a walk. Senior Hannah Parker sacrifices Boenker to 2nd, Ellison doesn't cover 3rd and Boenker hustles there. Curtis grounds out to first but allows Boenker to add an insurance run. The 2 run lead would be enough for Parker as she strikes out 9 and improves to 11-1 on the year.
The Lady Vikings are now 21-4, 8-1 in 12-5A a game up on second place Temple. They will host Copperas Cove on Thursday at 7pm at the Lady Viking softball complex.

The BHS Lady Viking softball team moved into a first place tie in district 12-5A with a pair of big victories Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Vikings hosted their crosstown rivals AMC Tigers on Friday night in front of a capacity crowd. The Lady Vikings were an out away from run ruling them in 5 innings. BHS would still prevail by a score of 10-1 as Senior Hannah Parker improved to 9-1 on the mound. Sophomore Erica Russell started the scoring with an inside the park home run in the bottom of the first. The Lady Vikings would break the game open with a 7 run second inning. On Saturday the Lady Vikings would travel to Killeen to make up a rain out vs Shoemaker. The Lady Vikings would pound the Lady Greywolves by a score of 24-4. Junior Brittney Jones raises her pitching record to 6-1. As seniors Kenna Buxbaum and Meagan Kraatz and sophomore Taylor Curtis each had three hits. Junior Reagan Boenker hit her 4th home run of the season to tie a school season record. The Lady Vikings are now 19-3 and finish the first half of district play at 6-1 tied for first with A&M Consolidated and Temple. They will take the first part of the week off due to testing and will return to the diamond on Friday hosting Belton at 7pm here at the BHS Softball Complex.

The Bryan High School softball team won 2 out of 3 games during spring break. Because of the weather, the Lady Vikings were forced to play catch up in district play. On Monday, they traveled for an afternoon game at Temple. Senior Hannah Parker suffered her first loss of the season as Temple prevailed 2-0. The Lady Vikings would get right back on the bus and they traveled to Copperas Cove for a night game. The offense would come alive as the Lady Vikings pound out 19 hits including a school record four home runs, blasting the Bulldogs 16-4. Seniors Kenna Buxbaum and Meagan Kraatz both hit their second home runs of the year, sophomore Erica Russell hits her first of the year and junior Reagan Boenker hits her 3rd of the year as she also moves to number 1 on the career home run list with 8 passing former Lady Viking Ashley Lara (2010). Parker would get back on the winning column in relief improving her record to 8-1.
On Tuesday, the Lady Vikings were back at home and they would run rule Harker Heights 12-0 in five innings. Sophomore Rebecca Peirce improves to 4-1 and she throws her first career no hitter. Junior Brittney Jones would lead the offense going 2-3 with a run scored. The Lady Vikings are now 17-3, 4-1 in district. They will travel Tuesday to Shoemaker then host A&M Consolidated at 7pm on Friday to close up the first half of district.

The BHS Varsity softball team traveled down to Missouri City to participate in the 8th annual Sienna-MC tournament which featured some of the best teams in the state. The Lady Vikings made history by becoming the first BHS team to go a perfect 6-0 at the prestigious tournament. On Thursday the Lady Vikings would begin the day by holding off Texas City 3-2. Sophomore Rebecca Peirce picked up her 3rd win of the season. Senior Meagan Kraatz(1-2, run, rbi) and sophomore Taylor Curtis(1-2, run) would lead the offense. The game winner would turn out to be a Kraatz squeeze bunt brining in Curtis. The second game of the day would see the Lady Vikings take on defending 4A champion and current #1 Santa Fe.  After allowing 3 runs in the bottom of 1st, Junior Brittney Jones goes the distance and gets her 3rd win of the season. Reagan Boenker hits her second home run of the season in the 4th tying her for most career home runs(7) with former Lady Viking Ashley Lara(2010). Down 3-2 with 2 outs and 2 strikes in the top of the 7th, Kraatz singles to left field scoring fellow senior Hannah Parker and sophomore Courtney Meier to give the Lady Vikings the 4-3 lead. Jones retires the side and Lady Vikings pull off the comeback victory. The dramatic victories would continue on Friday. In the first game of day 2 BHS would take on #12 Deer Park. Lady Vikings scratch out a 2-1 victory. Parker improves her record to 5-0, as the game winner comes on a 1st and 3rd double steal with Sophomore Erica Rusell scoring as Junior Morgan Isbell draws the throw. Game 2 would see the second of three comeback victories for the Lady Vikings. Parker picks up her second victory of the day in relief of sophomore Rebecca Peirce. In the bottom half of the final inning, down 4-3. Jones walks and Kraatz triples Jones in to tie the game. After a pair of walks to load the bases and 1 out. Kraatz catches the Angleton battery sleeping and steals home for the walk off win. In game 1 of day 3, the Lady Vikings beat Katy Seven Lakes 4-1. Jones improves to 4-1 on the season and helps herself at the plate with a 2-3, rbi game. Comeback 3 of the weekend would be in the final game of the tournament. Katy Taylor takes a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Down 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th, Junior Taylor Canales triples to start the inning. Kraatz singles her to tie the game at 2. With Kraatz at 3rd, Jones singles her in for the lead, Junior Reagan Boenker and sophomore Madison Goolsby combine on a double steal as Boenker increases the lead. to 4-2. Parker pickes up her second relief victory of the weekend to improve her record to 7-0.
The Lady Vikings are now 14-2 on the season and finally return home with a pair of district games this week. Hosting Killeen Ellison Monday and Copperas Cove Friday first pitch set for 7pm for both games.

The Bryan HS Varsity Softball team opened up their final 12-5A campaign by blasting defending district champion Belton 12-0 in a run-rule 5 inning game. Senior Hannah Parker improved to 4-0 on the season as she gave up only two bloop singles and struck out 6. In the 1st Junior Reagan Boenker starting the scoring with a single bringing in Senior Meagan Kraatz, Senior Kenna buxbaum's double to the right center gap and scores Boenker and Junior brittney jones to end the 1st inning scoring. The Lady Vikings would increase the lead by one run in the 2nd as sophomore Erica Russell singles up the middle scoring fellow sophomore Courtney meier from second. The top of the 4th would see the Lady Vikings break the game open as Boenker singles in meier and Kraatz, Parker draws a bases loaded walk and Russell jogs in, Buxbaum hits a shot  at the second baseman an her errant throw to the plate scores Boenker and Jones. The Lady Vikings would complete the run rule with Boenker drilling a single down the left field line scoring Kraatz and Russell, Sophomore Taylor curtis end the scoring with her bloop single as courtesy runner Anissa hernandez comes in for the 12th run. The Lady Vikings will take a break from 12-5A play as they travel to Missouri City for their final tournament of the 2012 season. Thursday the Lady Vikings will face Texas City and 4A defending state champion and current #1 Santa Fe.

The Bryan Varsity Softball team competed in the Southlake Tournament finishing 3rd in the 32 team tournament. The Lady Vikings finished with a 3-2 record for the weekend. On Thursday the Lady Vikings played a pair of non-bracket games and split. In the first game Junior Brittney Jones suffered her first loss of the season. Jones, fellow junior Reagan Boenker and senior Meagan Kraatz all had a pair of hits for the Lady Vikings. After Whitehouse took a 4-1 lead the Lady Vikings would answer in the top of the 6th with 6 runs to take a 7-4 lead, unfortunatly the lead wouldn't last as the 'cats answered with four runs to out score the Lady Vikings by a 8-7 score. In game 2 of the day Kraatz lead off the game with an inside the park home run as the Lady Vikings jumped out to a 4-0 lead, they would have hold off a comeback by the Haltom Buffs for a 4-3 win. Sophomore Rebecca Peirce picks up her second victory and Senior Hanna Parker comes in for her first save of the year. Sophomores Courtney Meier and Taylor Curtis along with Boenker led the offense with two hits each. Day 2 saw the Lady Vikings open up bracket play. The Lady Vikings would combine to score 30 runs in two victories defeating Weatherford 10-0(6 inns) and Canyon Randall 20-1(6 inns) Against Weatherford Parker improves her record to 3-0 on the mound striking out 9 and helped herself offensively going 3-3. Kraatz would also add 3 hits. In game 2 and 11 run 6th inning paved the way for Jones to improve her record to 2-1. Jones and senior Kenna Buxbaum both had 5-5 game. In Saturday's semifinal the Lady Vikings would suffer their worse loss of the young season with a 10-0 loss to a senior laden Flower Mound team(7 senior starters). The loss drops Peirce to 2-1 on the season. Jones would get a pair of hits for the Lady Vikings. The 7-2 Lady Vikings will begin their final season in district 12-5A traveling to take on defending district champion Belton at 7pm on Tuesday February 28th.


The BHS Varsity won three games at the rain-shortened BCS Tournament. The Lady Vikings traveled twice to Mumford's Turf Softball Field(Thurs & sat) and played at home on Friday. They battled the elements and opponents to improve their season record to 4-0. Thursday the Lady Vikings defeated #20 Los Frenos 6-1. Junior Brittney Jones won her first game of the 2012 season. The Lady Vikes were lead at the plate by seniors Meagan Kraatz(2-3, 2 runs, 2 stolen bases) and Kenna Buxbaum(2-2, 2 rbis.) On Friday Buxbaum continued her hot streak. With 2 outs and 2 strikes in the final inning, the Lady Vikings had the bases loaded  down 2-1, Buxbaum would send the 1-2 pitch over the center field wall for a grand slam and enough runs for Sophomore Rebecca Peirce to earn her first career varsity win. Brittney Jones would assist Buxbaum(2-3, HR, 4 rbis), with a 2-3 day of her own that included a double and run scored. Final Score Bryan 5 Burleson Centennial 2 Saturday the Lady Viking again made the trip over to Mumford again as they defeated San Antonio Holmes by a score of 7-2. Junior Reagan Boenker would finish the game off with a 2-run home run as time expired. Senior Hannah Parker picks up her second win of the year on the mound. The Bryan Lady Vikings softball team began their 2012 campain with a 9-2 victory over the Waller Lady Bulldogs @ BHS Tuesday night. The Lady Vikings took a 2-0 in lead in the top of the 1st inning on a single by Brittney Jones(junior) scoring Erica Russell(sophomore). Madison Goolsby(sophomore) drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Jones. After Waller cut the lead in half in the top of the 2nd, the Lady Vikings would respond with 2 more runs. Taylor CanalesI(junior) scores on a squeeze bunt by Russell. Russell would score on another squeeze by Reagan Boenker(junior). Waller gets a run in the top of 4th, and the Lady Vikings break the game open with 5 in the bottom of 4th. Canales comes in on a single by Russell. Meagan Kraatz(senior) and Russell come in on a squeeze by Boenker. Jones doubles off and Boenker scores. Morgan Isbell(junior) in her first at bat of the game singles up the middle and Jones ends the scoring. Senior Hannah Parker pitches the complete game, striking out 5. The Lady Vikings will now focus on hosting the 50 team Bryan-College Station Tournament, playing six games in 3 days. All their games will be at BHS, starting Thursday at 10am vs #20 Los Fresnos.
