Through Texas Tech University, students can take a correspondence course or "test out" of a course by taking credit-by-exam (CBE). Visit www.depts.ttu.edu/uc/k-12 for more information (select the first option, Supplemental Curriculum).
CREDIT-BY-EXAM (CBE)
Bryan High School students can "test out" of a course by taking a final exam in that course. The exam will need to be sent to BHS to be proctored by an advisor. For more information, or to set up a test date, contact Kay Leifeste at 209-2612 or kleifeste@bryanisd.org. The CBE score will NOT count in a student's GPA. (Note: this information is specific to Bryan High School and Bryan ISD; we do not provide CBEs to students from other school districts.)
There are two types of CBE: remediation and acceleration. Review sheets can be found online at www.depts.ttu.edu/uc/cbereview
CBE for remediation can be taken if a student fails a course with a 60-69.
* The cost is $40.
* Credit is earned for a score of 70 or better.
CBE for acceleration is taken to get ahead on coursework; the student cannot have taken the course before.
* BISD gives CBE for acceleration on specific dates durng the summer. Click here for dates and further information.
* The cost is $30.
* Credit is earned for a score of 90 or better.
CORRESPONDENCE COURSES
In a correspondence course, the student will be sent lessons by a professor. You can choose to take the course online or have paper lessons sent to you. Upon completing each lesson, the student sends it back to the professor, who grades it. A final exam will be sent to BHS to be proctored by an advisor. Credit is earned for a score of 70 or better. The cost for a correspondence course is $150 (online version; $175 for paper version). Register online at www.depts.ttu.edu/uc/k-12 (select the first option, Supplemental Curriculum). A maximum of three credits can be awarded for correspondence courses; grades from correspondence courses are NOT part of a student's GPA.
