GRADES
Students can earn a grade of A, B, C, or F in each class.  In order to earn credit, a student must make at least a 70 (C).

A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
F = 69 and below

SEMESTER AVERAGING
When a student fails the first semester of a two-semester course, then semester averaging will be used. The two semesters will be added together and divided by two to obtain an averaged semester grade. Semester averaging will only be used when the student fails the first semester, passes the second semester, and the average of the two grades is 70 or above.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CREDITS
Some students may have earned high school credits in middle school (i.e. Algebra 1, Spanish 1, BCIS, Foundations).  While these courses may count for high school credit, they are not calculated in a student's GPA.

WEIGHTED GRADES
Bryan High School weights honors, PreAP, AP, and dual credit courses in calculating GPA and class rank.

Regular classes are on a 4.0 scale (a 93 is equivalent to a 3.3 GPA).

Honors and PreAP classes are on a 5.0 scale (a 93 is equivalent to a 4.3 GPA).

AP and dual credit classes are on a 6.0 scale (a 93 is equivalent to a 5.3 GPA).

In all cases, the grade that is earned in the class is the grade that will appear on the student's transcript.  However, in calculating GPA and class rank, the weighted value will be used.  For example, a student who makes an 80 in an Honors or PreAP course will have that grade calculated as a 90.  A student who makes an 80 in an AP course will have that grade calculated as a 100.

As with any other course, in order for a student to receive credit in a weighted course, a grade of 70 or better must be earned.

Tutoring
All teachers at BHS have tutorial times. Students should seek help from their teachers (including past teachers).

If you are looking for other options, here are two possible resources:

Free tutoring is offered at Westminster Presbyterian Church (on Oak Ridge) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:30. Call 776-1185 for more information.

An A&M organization is also offering free tutoring. Contact Lyndsey Simpson at 450-1421 for more information.
