BHS SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Our summer school program uses a combination of API curriculum and A+ online software; it is self-paced. Students read through modules (a packet of information and worksheets) and take a test after each module. Each course has a different number of modules. The course grade is determined by module tests (80%) and the final exam (20%); the grade is calculated in a student's GPA. While a certified teacher is in each classroom, teaching in the traditional sense is not provided. The teacher is available to answer questions and assist students on an individual basis.
Registration for summer school will begin in May 2010.
Most summer courses are offered for credit recovery only (meaning the student must have taken the course and failed it). A few courses are available for a student to "get ahead." Courses typically offered in summer school include:
English 1 (credit recovery only)
English 2 (credit recovery only)
English 3 (credit recovery only)
English 4 (4A for credit recovery only; 4B for December graduates)
Algebra 1 (credit recovery only)
Geometry (credit recovery only)
Math Models (credit recovery only; 3-year graduates can take this to get ahead with advisor approval)
Algebra 2 (credit recovery only)
IPC (credit recovery only)
Biology (credit recovery only)
Environmental Science
World Geography (credit recovery only)
World History (credit recovery only)
U.S. History (credit recovery only)
Goverment (.5 credit)
Economics (.5 credit)
Speech (.5 credit)
Health (.5 credit)
Foundations of Personal Fitness (.5 credit)
Art (fine arts credit or elective credit)
Multimedia (technology credit or elective credit)
Summer school 2009 was held from June 8 to July 2, Monday through Thursday, with class times in the morning (8:30 - 11:30) and afternoon (12:00 - 3:30). Classes are held on Silver Campus. The cost typically runs $135 per 1/2 credit (students on Free or Reduced Lunch pay $67.50); however, this cost is subject to change from year to year.
