What Is Technology Integration
And Why Is It Important
Change comes slowly to education. When you walk into some classrooms, they may look just like they did 10 or 20 or 30 years ago! Nice neat rows, an overhead projector at the front of the room...
...but students have changed, even if classrooms haven't! Students entering college in 2007 have a different perspective on the world than most of their teachers:
Students cannot learn and retain information if their brains are not engaged, so, while the benefits of technology are argued on both sides, it is a fact that technology can (and does) engage students if used in creative and productive ways.
Recent brain research shows that kids' brains are wired differently
Ian Jukes also has many thought-provoking articles and handouts
Like it or not, it falls to the teacher to make the shift. Teachers who are not comfortable with the use of technology themselves or who feel they always must know more about everything than their students will have the steepest learning curve. Often, seeing how excited students are when learning includes technology is a way to encourage them.
