Welcome to World Geography !

                                                Pre-AP – Fall 2006

You are about to embark on a learning adventure around the world! I have high hopes for your success in this class. My goal is to help you grow and learn as an individual as you learn about the world around you.  Here is some basic information you need to know about this course:

Supplies:  It is very important for you to have the supplies you need to do the work in this class.  These are the items you will need to have in class every day:

Folders w/brads           notebook paper         highlighter      pencil sharpener

**Map pencils              pens (dark ink)          pencils

fine point black ink pen for maps                  box of tissue   dry erase marker

Assignments: Every student will receive a calendar showing the due dates for major grades (tests and projects). This is to help you organize yourself and be prepared. Please note that these dates are tentative and subject to change if we need more time to explore a unit.

Homework: We will have homework at least once a week. Class work not completed during the  class time automatically becomes homework unless you are told otherwise. This year Pre-AP will have specific reading assignments for homework in addition to class assignments.

Missed work and Makeup work: It is YOUR responsibility to make sure that you get all of your makeup work turned in. You need to take care of getting your missed assignments when you return after an absence. Check the PURPLE FOLDER for the assignment and get the papers from the PURPLE BOX.  If you are present the day an assignment is given, but absent on the day it is due, then it must be turned in the first day you return. Late work will be penalized by reducing grade points. Assignments not turned in on the due date must have a green sheet attached when turned in!!!

Late work policy:

Daily work: 1 day late – 30 point deduction. Second day late – 40 point deduction. Third day late – 50 point deduction. NO work accepted after third day late.

Major grades: 10 point deduction for every day late.

Grades: Each student's grade will be determined on the following basis: Tests, quizzes, unit folders and major projects = 70%, Daily work = 30% of total grade average

Grade Reports: Every 3 weeks students will receive a progress report that must be signed by parents or guardians and returned.
